First and second year members learn all about lots of different hand tools that making shavings and sawdust. They make a sanding block, bench hook, a bungie robot, a semi with a trailer, items to put in the trailer (like wood pallets), a small car or truck and even a small tank. They build and paint a tool box and also made an animal head from a log and a board. With supervision some power tools can be used to build a work horse.
Third year members are learning about making and using differnt types of drawings. They are also learning about sharpening tools used in wood working, making and using different types of joints, and more about power tools to cut, prepare and finish wood projects. This group will find a log, cut it in half and use different kinds of chisels to carve a bowl. They use mitre saws, a band saw and then upgrade to a power sander.
Fourth year and beyond members have interest based projects with assistance and supervision from the leaders. Darryl and Larry have been leaders with the club for 9 years. They promote safety and structure to help members create usable projects in wood working.
